Question:

In new to bass, is it normal, is the fretboard supposed to be able to pull back and forth slightly?

i just bought a fender squire, and ive had it for about a month now, and i realized that the fretboard, if i pull back on it, it kinda moves, and same if i push forward. what i mean is that holding the body in place, and pulling back slightly, (not much pressure) the strings will get closer to the board, and pushing away from me, they get looser. is that normal? do electric bass fret boards normally wiggle?

  1. mine doesn't :S

  2. noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!...

take it back if you bought it new, they should repair or replace under warranty.

  3. You will have some movement because the neck is adjustable.  When you are pulling on it, the neck is curving slightly which is causing the fretboard to appear closer to the strings.

  4. even the best bass will do this, just don't pull or push on it.

  5. that's a pressure you should not be inducing on a guitar neck. all guitars will move somewhat, but the pressure should be applied by fingertips on the fretboard.

  6. As long as the movement of your fretboard isn't substantial then your bass should be fine.

However, if the movement increases then i'd look into getting some repairs.

  7. Fender Squires are great 6-string electric guitars and basses for beginners, but once you are about a year of playing, buy a real Fender.

The long and short of it is no. Your entire neck is wiggling either 1. because it is a bolt-on neck and the bolts are loose, or 2. because the socket in which the neck fits into the body is too big. On the back of your bass you should see screws/bolts--these should be right where the neck joins the body. Tighten this down and see if that helps it. If your neck is not the bolt-on type, your out of luck until you buy a new bass. Having your neck wiggle will help with the un-tuning of your bass. It's best to have a nice solid neck-to-body joint.

Good luck playing bass! It's a lot of fun!

  8. no they don't not wobble and you should take your guitar to a guitar shop and have them glue ur fretboard on better
