  1. Here's a summary of the laws from NC.

You should be able to do your work independently, but you will have to be highly motivated and committed to completing your work.

Here are some programs that you may want to look into:

  2. Here are the NC homeschool laws:

You may homeschool alone, or you may find another homeschool family to take you in and homeschool with them. Two-family homeschooling is legal in NC.

While homeschooling isn't totally free, you probably can do it for the price of uniforms and bus tickets.

No where does it say that a parent must be there all the time. In fact, learning on your own can be seen as a big plus when it comes to college entrance or a career.

I have more here about homeschooling high school, as I'm running close to my word limit.

  3. Yes you can do it expecially if you are motivated to work on your own. There really is not much you couldn't find on the internet if you do have questions. You can also wait until your Mom gets home to do anything that requires her to test you.

They only require a yearly test in the major subjects, but if you keep up with your work you should be fine.

I have known parents that do homeschooling at night when they get home and on the weekends. They just seem to make it work. Were there is a will there is a way.

  4. The rules are worded something like "regular schedule" and if your regular schedule is at night, that is not a problem.

Yes.  You can do your work by yourself, overseen by your parents/guardians.

We have unusual schedule and leave work assignments for our high school age son.   Much of the checking and review is done at  night and on weekends.

Congratulations.  You seem to be a person who will benefit from  learning at home.   It is great that we live in age of technology, where so much information can be received easily.

If you are going to create your own curriculum, email me.   We have some great links to free webpages with video/audio and

  5. If you can do better by being homeschooled just by attendance alone, that is a major improvement. I don't see how the state would say no. But there is the matter of your age. I think you need to be about 16 in CA to be left at home alone during normal school hours. And your days may be limited. Here, you could be out at the mall with your mom and you could still get in trouble with the cops because legally you can only miss school if you have a dr appt or are at home sick.

There is however, the alternative of just going for a GED or getting your HS diploma at home. So long as you have passed the 8th grade. Check out PennFoster.com or SCItraining.net.

  6. It depends on your age. If you're legally old enough to be home alone (over 12) or if you have someone to look after y ou if you're not, then YES! You can work independently durring the day if you can/want to, and then at night your mother can help you with llessons/projects. There is also online school which can be entirely independent, but I personally think traditional homescooling is better. But you could be different.

  7. I think that as long as you do the required work for home schooling there is no hour limit. But you must be able to pass the state test to be promoted to the next grade.Home schooling isn't cheap either you have to buy books and other things that are required by the state of NC. Home schooling is the answer for a lot of kids though. Good Luck to you!!
