This is a question I have been trying to find out for days, but I never found out the answer.I know Clara Barton wanted to join the society of the International Red Cross, but I do not know whether the Geneva Convention needed to be signed in order to join. Also, I would appreciate it if you guys could put references up. If you can't, that's OK.

  1. I wasn't aware that countries could join the Red Cross - only the local societies within those countries.

Countries sign treaties, and so far as I'm aware the US has signed all but the most recent Geneva Conventions, only holding back at provisions that would let people put down and pick up guns as they please and claim rights of civilians and freedom fighters without being identified which was which - a complete nonsense.

I understand the US Red Cross has a problem with the internal body due to their abandonment of their neutral principles.
