  1. I don't think it matters wether you have howned a horse before or not. As long as you have the money for one (and all its needs), have the space, the time, and know how to take care of one, it should be prefectly fine!

Good luck to you, and the new horse!

  2. You will need to have refrences to say that you are good with horses and that you are responsable.  They will come to your place where you are going to keep the horse so they can make sure it is a safe environment.  They may even do check ups to make sure that they are being taken care of over time.  However i do not believe you need to have already owned a horse.

Best wishes and good for you

  3. No

  4. Every rescue has its own rules, so you'd have to check with the particular rescue that has a horse you're interested in.  I can't think of any that require it, but they do require that you have enough experience to take care of the horse and they will likely conduct an interview and watch you with the horse.

  5. Rescue horses may come with issues. If you have the money to afford professional horse training, Natural Horsemanship and other issue-specific training and also have the money for farrier, vet, etc, then you can try a rescue horse. If you will be boarding somewhere check with the trainer you will be working with about their experience with rescue horses or horses with issues.

For a first horse I would HIGHLY recommend getting a lesson horse or something more settled that you will have an easier time with. Don't go for the cheapest you can afford because you do get what you pay for with horses and it's a bad fit for the horse and the owner.

  6. No, at least its not one thing that matters at my rescue...I have an application i give people but its more to fit the right horse with the right person...Plus we have no problems teaching people the things they need to know and to give lessons before they move the horse from here.  Make sure you get a horse for the level you are now and ask them million question, there is nothing wrong with learning all you can.  I'm giving lessons to a little girl right now and we will find her that perfect horse...i hope LOL  Mine are to advanced for her but she is doing well.

  7. i don't know about that but all of the things that the i hear that most people have other horses there! i would like to know that too

  8. I do not think you have to be a current or even a past horse owner.  You just have to have the money and the place to keep the horse.  You would also need to know about horses and it sounds like you do, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I think it is wonderful that you are considering a rescue horse.  Good luck!

  9. You'd make an adopter. Experience is the main thing adoption societies are looking for. If you have looked after and worked with horses for a long time then you have experience. Every adoption society works differently, but if you have somewhere to keep a horse then I'm sure you'll get to adopt one.

    Good Luck!!!

  10. if you think you are experienced enough you should be alright but just remember that you do not know what has happened in that horses life before you came along so you would have to be careful for a bit.

make sure you think you got the right horse as well!

my horse is rescued it was my best decision ever!

    hope this helps.
