In order to charter a boat (20ft+) motor cruiser, how do you get a licence to allow you to sail on your own?

Would like to have freedom from having to have a skipper and would like to charter boat only in Turkey. Are there some sort of qualifications you get in the UK. How and where? Thanks

What AA said, except that if you're in the US I would look into US Sailing or US Power Squadrons.

Contact the RYA, Royal Yachting Association. They run many courses all over the country, from dinghy sailing to the full blown Yacht Masters. If you are hiring abroad, they may require different qualifications, but I'd have thought Day Skipper or Competent Crew would suffice. The RYA can advise.

You can also sail with a flotilla, where you captain your vessel but there is a lead yacht that ensures everyone arrives safely at their destination. Bon voyage.
