Considering the increases in technology, would you support legislation that would charge a incrementally increasing fee for every year of a vehicle's age, encouraging the owner to trade in old vehicles for efficient, lower polluting vehicles?

In consideration of the fact that old cars, pre-early 70's and older, are free to drive on the road with no smog checks or backward compatible equipment to curb their emissions....I'll leave that one up to the vote.

  1. If the people that are driving the old cars could afford a new car, they would buy one.  Hitting them with a fine or banning their vehicle isn't going to help them much.  You need to quit hugging trees and get out in the real world for a while.

  2. Nope.  My car is 10 years old and gets better gas mileage than many vehicles on the road.  30 mpg highway and 25 in town.  If people would stop buying huge gas guzzlers, and take better care of their vehicles, we could drastically reduce emissions.  Newer isn't always better if it isn't efficient and kept up to date on maintenance.

  3. I would like to vote against worn out cars. But i would also suggest that instead of fuel consuming vehicles people should use bicycle or other environment friendly vehicles. That will not only help to secure nature but also maintain and enhance our fitness level. So it would be a WIN-WIN situation!!!!

  4. I'm sure the auto makers would love it.

In the real world (where you obviously do not live), people can't afford to buy a new car with state of the art technology every 8 years.

Tell you what.  If you're willing to come up with a plan on subsidizing more affordable cars, I'll reconsider my position on banning older cars.

  5. I agree with the first answer, a lot of the people can't afford new cars and that's why they drive the older cars.  My boyfriend and my "dad" don't drive old cars because they want to, they just can't afford to buy a new one.

  6. No - age of a car is not the only determining factor in air pollution. This would only penalize those that can not afford a to buy a new vehicle.
