just cut the fuel tax? It seems like a lot of people are blaming "Big Oil", which really isn't the case. Yes of course they are making money, (well it's a business isn't it?). Look I am not happy with gas prices either, but there is someone bigger to blame. Wall Street and the Government. Who actually pretty much controls Wall Street. (but thats another topic). Avg: Gas tax in the United States is 52 cents per gallon. That is not including the extra "hidden state taxes as well" Which can bring it close to a dollar in certain States. In fact there are only (7) states without hidden gas taxes that I know of.

Case Point: N.Y (Where I grew up and love)

Federal Tax: 32 cents per gallon

State Tax: 31.9 cents per gallon

Excise tax 8 cents per gallon

business tax 14 cents per gallon

Avg County Tax 7.5 cents per gallon

And most States are just like this. So if gas costs avg $4 a gallon and 90cents to $1 is taxes. Why can't they just cut the gas taxes some?

  1. In theory that is a good idea, however it is impractical.

While those taxes are supposed to be used for roads, we all know that they aren't.  If they actually used all of that money for the roads we could be driving on streets of gold, however, it is used for almost everything but roads.

If you think it's bad for you, try driving a truck for a living.  Trust me, nobody wants solutions like we (drivers) do.

If they reduced the taxes and used the money for roads that would be a start, however it is not the solution.

  2. You have it backwards wallstreet controls government not the other way around.

I'd love to tell you that those taxes go to help build bridges and maintain roads but the truth is that is a bunch of BS! Our elected official have become accustomed to somethings and our taxes $$$ for their personal interests have become one of them. True conservatives and libertarian's might back this but the Neo-Con's that have currently high jacked our foreign policy would never stand for this and are for bigger government and wasteful spending.

  3. Yeah!

They should also help car manufacturers make electric cars. The whole world should aim for electric cars to stop the pollution and to help us all save money.

We'd save tons and be much healthier, too!!

  4. You are lucky you dont like in Britain, we currently have to pay $9 a gallon, and most of that is tax.

Our 'government' keeps side stepping the issue by saying "its a global issue" and yes the price of crude has gone up but so has their ridiculous level of tax.

  5. Remember...the dollar is loosing buying power everyday< big factor even though mainstream media and the guvmint say everything is dandy...we need a sound currency.

  6. because Bush wants a bigger Retirement pension.
