  1. Not at all. It is nice to be tall, but if you are shorter, you can play a setter, or my favorite, play back row and dig for all the spikes. Also, short people can still spike it good if they can jump. But in all, short people can be just as important to a team if they can do what the tall people can't do.

  2. no not at all

  3. Heck no. I'm 5'2 and I play setter and DS. the thing is i have a good vertical when i jump.

  4. I was only 4'11 and one of the best on my team. you just have to know your strengths and hone in on them

  5. It depends on the school, like if there good and have a lot of taller people trying out they will probably pick them over a shorter player.

  6. it depends on the coach... i no a coach that kicked a girl off the team even though she was really good only because she was short... if u R not very tall try 2 improve ur verticaland u can make up 4 being short !!! wow them by how high u can jump... talk 2 the coach if u make the team and he isnt playin u... if he still wont let u play it is his loss and his stuoid move... dont let ur height keep u from playing the game and dont let it hold u back or use it as an excuss !!! no one feels sorry 4 u... u need 2 use wut u have and make it work !!! good luck

  7. Was a very  good volleyball player and offered many scholarships.  Being tall definately helps but I have seen many great players that are short.  Often these shorter players work on specific skills such as passing, serving, and setting, none of which require height.

  8. no no no you dont have to.Being tall just comes natural and you dont have to be tall to be a setter either.I would try being a setter but i aint sayin setters are short but alot of setters i know of have been like '4'7 and thats kinda a short but u will have a growth spert.

  9. NO!!!! i play volleyball and i am very short. just practice your digging and you could try out for libero.

  10. tall players help in the offense by blocking the ball... but,not all players are tall. sometimes,we need to get short players(in height of 5'5) to be the libero because he/she could dig up the ball swiftly because of her height......and because of this,it is easily for her to dig the ball...

  11. no. its not like a "requirement" but they will definitely consider you a lot more for the team if you are pretty tall.

  12. I played in college with a girl that was 5'3".  She was our setter, but highly effective as one.

I am 5'9", and when hitting, I have the hardest time with the "short" girls blocking me because their hands end up right in the path of the downward motion of the ball.  A tall blocker I can see where they are at and hit around.  Those pesky short girls I don't see until after I hit the ball.

In high school, height will help, but not all tall girls are good at sports.  Likewise, not all great athletes are tall.  Go for it!  The only way you are going to find out if you are good enough is to try out. . .

  13. You don't have to be tall, but it's an advantage. Just as long as you can play that's good enough.

  14. No, not really.  Just gotta be able to jump pretty well, be able to serve well, and be able to spike.

  15. No not at all. But it helps. A lot of girls on my team are short. But they are good. If your tall things will be a little bit easier and you would have a big advantage.

  16. No you don't have to be tall.  I am not very tall and I played.  It helps for blocking and what not, but if you have a decent vertical that is good.  It depends on the position you want to play too.  Liberos are generally shorter and being shorter seems to help people be better passers.  If you are decent the coach will see that.  My friend was 5'4" and was on varsity all four years.  Keep practicing and work on your vertical and passing.

  17. It is not necessary but it does help. I have played for a long time and i am short. But I play back row.

  18. no but it helps a ton.

if u are short than try to be a back court player and put lots of top spin on the ball

  19. it helps but no i was like 5'3" last year when i played

  20. Short girls can still play front row. Work on your jumping and hits, or you could set. You just have to be able to block and hit like the tall girls. Hight helps, but it isn't a qualification to play

  21. Definetly not, height has NOTHING to do with volleyball. All these people saying "It helps"..yeah well they obviously don't know the sport. I'm 5"2 and I play Libero/DS (Defensive Specialist) on my travel volleyball team, and I can jump at the net higher than a girl who is 5"8 on my team. I mean, it COULD help if you were taller, but it really doesn't have any effect on how you play. Even though I am 5"2, I can still block effectivly, the same as how the other taller girls on my team do. If you are short and can't jump that high, I would start being trained by a trainer, since that's what I have been doing, and since November, I have increased my jump by 6 inches. A good machine to use is called the VertiMax, which is something most trainers should have.

Height has nothing to do with volleyball.

  22. no but u can play better when your tall

  23. no not at all! some of the girls on our team are so short but man they can spike!

  24. Take it from me, im not the tallest dude on the court but teams shift their defense when im front court. As long as u have more heart and the desire to win then ur opponent, nothing can stop you. So dont let ur height prevent you from playing a great game.

  25. no not particularly.  You just need to know how to play and really be able to!!

  26. Not at all.......I had a setter at UCLA that was 5' 4"

  27. You don't have to be tall to play for a high school volleyball team. Take my friend for example; she's about 4'11''-5', but she's one of the best players on the team. There are several positions that a short person can play in volleyball. For instance, a person can be in the back row and catch & return all the smashes that are aimed at the back. A short person can also spike the ball if they can jump. So if you're short, don't worry about making the team because of your height, just try your best in the try-outs and do even better in the real matches and in the tournaments.

  28. It certainly helps.

  29. No, of course not. Taller people are used more for front row players they are the ones who block spikes and slam balls down on the other side.

Shorter people are more for back row players, they do a lot of serving. But mostly they are the babes who are diging up all the hard serves that the other side is giving them. These girls are key to a great play, without you back row players the team can't get a good pass which messes up the set and spike.

You dont have to be tall to play. Dont let your height get to you. You can do it if you "Just Do It."  That is my moto...Like Nike says. Just be willing to do it and dont give up, stick with it chika.

  30. most hs vball teams will only have front row players if they are 5'6' on a girls vball team.  That and being a good athelete are also factors.  Like running a 2 mile in 13 minutes tops.  For back row it doesnt matter like for UNM the libero is 5ft.  Just do your best and good luck
