This is before my time, but when you needed to blow your nose, you dug in your pocket/purse & brought out that folded square of cloth.....located an "unused" part, & blew....& then PUT IT BACK till next time....then you put it in the wash...

Pretty gross, but it used to be commonplace, and it saves the trees...

  1. yes

  2. I always use handkerciefs. I prefer them as they're softer and stronger and I think they're classier.

  3. Yea sure! Let's go all out. Say, an organic, locally-made hemp handkerchief?

  4. well, trees are renewable, and so I would go with the more sanitary method. Also, it takes water to wash , and that also gets recycled. I think it takes more energy to wash than it does to use renewable(Not expensive, energy wasting recycled wood products) resources. Also, there is one more reason to ask the government to allow the growing of industrial hemp, it can be made into bio degradable products like tissue and toilet paper as well.

  5. no---not a chance.

  6. that's where going green goes out the window.

  7. I have been using handkerchiefs for years, when I don't have a cold.

  8. Yup it was but that was how I was raised, you can use the hankie once also. thanks for reinding me

  9. I would use one that I keep at home but I'd never carry one around with me.

  10. l have used a handkerchief for years. I agree  that they are better for the environment than tissues. My trouser pockets would feel empty if l did not have a hanky with me.

  11. I'm all about using cloth everythign for washing and reusing. But handkerchiefs for being on the go? How many dirty filthy ones do I want to carry home during allergy season? Reusing them is gross, but to switch over i'd have to start carrying a diaper bag again practically.

  12. Hi morkmath,

Our Mom's sure did, not only for her nose but then our mouth's to wipe something off our faces. Who knows when its was laundryed last heck it's our your Mom-no germs & we were all healthy. Have a good night. :0)

Additional Details: going green is finally getting there but it will also take many people to get caught up.  Handkerchiefs, towels instead stead of paper, grabage in  compost, glass, plastic, aluminum all can be recycled( plastics just need to be gone period. Besides all can be washed not quite what Mom would have done. But Grandmom still carries her handerchief.
