  1. You forgot to add choice c) None of the above

Plastic bags came into being at the behest of environmentalists who wanted to save the trees by not using paper bags. Now they want to get rid of the plastic bags because they clog up the landfills.

The law of unintended consequences once again validated.

  2. Answer A

  3. I think people will do more to avoid the pain of paying 10 cents per bag than gaining a discount.

    So my answer is "A"

  4. A but with a dollar charge instead of 10 cents because people don't really care if it is just a dime.

  5. There is no real right or wrong answer to this question, but if we are going to really try and make a difference why not do both?

If someone is buying enough to fill a whole bag then they can probably afford the 10 cents, and if they dont want to pay, they can bring their own bag.

    Save twice as much!!

  6. A

  7. Definitely (a). Fines are more "threatening".

  8. Neither. The crybabies wanted plastic bags so trees could be "saved". Now the crybabies are squawking about plastic bags, Oh, Boo-Hoo-Hoo!

    Give me a break!

  9. if they impose a 10cent per bag, more people would bring their cloth reusable bags and i think u could take that to the bank

  10. I would say b) people are more interested in what they will get instead of what it would cost can't u see they have cost their life because of wanting so many rewards from the earth!

  11. i think b is the best idea... not only you save money but you also help the environment

  12. (a)

the public in general, would prefer choice (b), any mention of discount will surely grab people's attentions. however, there are some problems with (b). how do you know how many plastic bags could have been used? tediousness of counting would be a setback and making a guess may spark off unwanted friction with the customer. what if he demands that more plastic bags could have been used, thus entitling him to more discounts?

choice (a), though more unpopular, would likely get the best results. some people would not want to spend the extra money. the risk of people complaining or making a fuss in this case, outweighs the fact that still will either pay up the money for the bag or not use the plastic bags at all.

  13. I'd say b is the better idea.  Rewards seem to motivate people more than punishments or in this case taxes.  If people know they are going to be saving money, I think they would be more likely to bring their own bags.

  14. (c) consider the 10 cents as a deposit and get it back when you return the plastic bag.

I've always thought it would be best if you fold up your empty shopping bags and refill them with groceries the next shopping day. If everyone did this once with every bag, the number of bags in the landfills would be reduced by 1/2.

  15. No matter what, grocery stores do not make much on the dollar. Plastic bags are a priviledge and not required by any place to offer for free(Making A a better solution). Maybe the key to this problem isn't so much reducing the amount of plastic bags, but trying to get people to move to canvas bags and/or boxes. Don't try to defeat a problem by targeting it directly - you need a solution that people would prefer compared to it. The store nor the people should be punished, so a better solution could be making store logo canvas bags.  People can buy these bags making the store money, and get a card stamped say like for every $25 they spend filling their canvas bags. After like $100 -$150 give then a 10% off coupon. Enticing people to spend money to save money gets everyone.

  16. How about (c) - all grocery stores take a page out of Trader Joe's book and offer a reasonably priced re-usable shopping bag.  They're tough, they're cute, and they're not paper or plastic.

If you cut out the plastic bags...you'll be using paper bags.

It's the age old question - would you rather kill a fish or a tree?

  17. B.

Please do not do what California did with its redemption for plastic Bottles. It got to be so bad that you  were charged 2 cents at the point of purchase. Then if you tried to redeem your bottle you could not find a place to do so. Keep the state out of it. A better way to go would be to offer a straight discount for no bags being used. They later changed it to 5 cents per bottle because it was so profitable.

  18. c..................none of the above

  19. That's not all that easy to answer, I guess I would go with B, but do people get something extra if they bring their own bags, whether they be paper, plastic or material.  I know in France most people who shop bring their own net bags when they go shopping.  I still have my net bag from when I lived over there.  It was a much better idea that you brought your own bags with you to the store.
