  1. Nope.

    Economic growth can be maintained.

It's just a matter of shifting from a fossil fuel energy driven economy to renewable non polluting resources.

Problem is, that big energy interests have not figured a way to

maintain profits while they make the transition if they want to stay in the energy business.

The potential for new jobs in alternative energy research, technology, hardware & production is enormous.

    Not to mention ...vital.

Other countries have a huge leap on the US in the field, not  entirely because it's the right thing to do but because they do not have the fat energy interests to deal with & energy independence makes sense.

No oil...no big oil interests...no oil lobby....no control of the govt. etc etc.

  2. I beg to disagree.  If Sustainable consumption overtakes sustainable development, our environment would be better because discipline will reign over greed.

  3. The problem with 'economic growth' is the way it is measured. For example, the costs of pollution are never taken into account but the costs of producing bombs and replacing crashed aeroplanes are always included.

One thing's for sure - now is a tremendous opportunity to invest in renewable resources and technology - there are millions to be made.

  4. yes. if we knew when it all fist developed though !

would any one sought a better way ?

  5. no - just to start the economy growing in a different direction.

  6. No, not really. There would definatly be costs. An the transition, from energy from oil to other sources, would be felt. There would be a new sector, and new technologies. This would lead to new avenues, perhaps even a more efficient energy system thaatw would allow money to be used elsewhere. I think that the costs of not doing anything now far outweighs the price of acting.

  7. Perhaps you'd like to explain that more fully to China.

  8. well lets say if we jus forget about preserving the environment and continue to exploit its resources just for the sake of "growing" our economy would u think the resources will last forever to sustain our growth or even jus sustain us period?  for example if we all just cut down trees endlessly in an irresponsible way without stopping jus so we sell a product to make a few bucks do u think there will be any more trees for us to make products out of or even survive since theres no oxygen coming from them?
