Me and my mum are going to Paris for 4 days in june and plan to do all the sight seeing so want a central location. We love traditional paris with the nice cosy restaurants and beautiful architecture. Le Marais has been recommended but i've heard that it can be really noisey at night with clubs and bars etc. Where would you recommend staying?

Thanks

  1. Ile de la cité, Quartier Latin, Ile de Saint Louis, and 1ere arrondissement all fill the first three requirements.  Quiet...that would depend on the actual street.

Quartier Latin is kind of a student quarter, but there are quiet corners, and it´s right across the river from Notre Dame.

  2. Anyplace that is central is going to have a certain amount of nightlife but even in the liveliest areas there are going to be a lot of quiet side streets.

Just make sure that your hotel is on one of those side streets and/or that your room does not face the street and there will be no problem.

Remember that Paris is an old city and that your hotel is likely to be a building that is well over a century old (and perhaps several centuries). Put one of these heavy stone buildings between you and the street (by getting a room away from the street) and it will be quite quiet.

You might like the area of the sixth arrondissement south of the Blvd. St. Germain for a hotel.

  3. noise really depends on the street you are in.

There are many small hotels near champs-élysées or opera or louvre which are in a very quiet smalll street, yet less than 5 minutes walk from the bustling avenues and the sights.
