In pokemon pearl, what do shards do? and where can you use them?

in pokemon diamond and pearl shards are not as good as they once were. you basically trade them in for different moves... you have to have ten of one color and then you trade them in for the corrosponging moves... aka 10 blue shards is the tm rain dance, 10 red shards is sunny day, 10 yellow shards is the tm sandstorm... etc. you find shards in the underground
