in pokemon tcg,the new cards have resistance and weakness + number beside the type symbol, what that mean?

im an old school player and I have mostly the oldest cards of the game, many rares though so I play with it still even versus new cards but I need to know about this new resistance and weakness + or - numbers, its new to me I have no idea what it means, the weakness still apply double the attack and it then add more a number to that amount? or is it just the attack damage plus that number? same for resistance I need to know, thanks in advance

  1. it is how much you lose extra in battle

  2. Pre-Diamond and Pearl, Weakness resulting in the attack's damage doubling.  Now, the attack damage is increased by the amount showing next to the weakness symbol.

Same with Resistance.  Pre-Diamond and Pearl, Resistance reduced an attack by 30.  Now it reduces it by some other amount (10, 20, or 30).

Some Pokemon have Weaknesses that still double the damage.  Those are indicated by a "X2" beside the Weakness symbol.
