In polygynous societies, what is done with young boys and men?

In light of the raid on the compund of polygamists in Texas, I wondered what was done with young men in that society who couldn't marry due the fact that the older men had all the women

  1. They marry a woman from outside (thus, increasing the fold); later, they are among the elders who get other wives from within (unless they manage to convert more than one outside woman).

    Just speculating here.

    In a way, you'd think the females would be at a premium in such groups; more in demand, as it were.


  2. Some get turned out to society, others just grow up and get thier own wives, depends what the elders want I suppose.  It's all pretty sad I think.
