  1. you should '' ask a ninja '' they always have the best answers....

    always works 4 me.

  2. All 9-ball games I've ever heard of if you make the '9' on the break and the cue ball stays on the table - you win that game.

As far as 8-ball goes... 99% of the places on the planet if you sink the '8' on the break and the cue ball stays on the table - you also win the game.

You may hear opposition to this from "Straight" and Johnny, but they don't speak for all Leagues.

I've played in the APA and their rules say you win... as many other Leagues around the country. Don't be mislead by those who say the BCA speak for all "Leagues" - they don't.

Wherever you are playing at the time... their rules prevail.

  3. When you break and one of the balls flies off the table and hits the opponent!!

  4. Using BCA rules, a 9 on the break in 9 ball is a win. Making the 8 on the break in 8 ball is NOT a win. You either re-rack or spot the 8 and continue.

However, in most 8 ball leagues, making the 8 on the break IS a win. If you're playing on a bar table you cannot use the BCA's rule, since you cannot take the 8 out once it's pocketed. Because of this, 99% of people consider an 8 on the break a win when playing on bar tables, and I believe it is a reasonable accommodation. If you do not play on bar tables, there is no reason not to use BCA rules (8 on break not a win).

  5. I wasn't even going to chime in here, since I think that Vegas Matt has the best answer.  It is completely due to coin-op tables that most people play it as a win.  8-ball as we play it is about 20 years older than 9-ball, so we can't blame it on 9-ball.  I just wanted to say that I don't think that Johnny and I are trying to say that BCA rules govern all pool leagues.  In fact, in terms of amateur leagues, only the BCA Pool League and ACS leagues use world-standardized rules.  It's true that the rules of the individual league or tournament supersede world-standardized rules if clearly posted, unless it is a BCA sanctioned league or tournament.  The BCA actually advertises for APA leagues on their tournament schedule along with the BCA Pool League.  As far as world-standardized rules are concerned the only games that you could win on the break shot are rotation games like 7-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, etc.  Or, I suppose you could put 8 balls into your corner on a one pocket break.  Not likely.  Johnny and I just happen to agree that world-standardized rules make the most sense to us and when asked questions about rules, that where we get our answers from.  I happen to represent the BCA, so of course I'm going to push BCA rules.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  6. sink 8 ball first not 2nd ect

  7. by getting the eight ball in....or by getting every ball in...but that would be pretty much impossible

  8. Aboyt the only way is to make the 9 on the break or 6 -10- any rotation money ball game

For the 36th time 8 on the break does NOT WIN and right now I dont care how you play down at the Dew Drop Inn If you want rules thats the rules.

                   Thanks Johnny

  9. The only legal way to win from the break is to sink the 8 ball.

  10. Kill your oponent with the stock of your cue whilst taking the shot.

  11. In 9-ball, it is by sinking the 9-ball on the opening break.

In 8-ball, it is if your opponent jumps the 8-ball off the table on the break.  Below is the rules of 8-ball.

If, in 8-ball, you pocket all the balls on the break, you could win, unfortunately, it would happen once in a billion years.
