  1. All prisons are different. It depends on your state, your crime, the prison you've been put in, etc.

  2. You might have a phone you can use ... once or twice per week, supervised.  The people you call would have to give permission to you (in writing) before you could call them.  You will not be allowed to use the phone anytime you want to.

How many people in your cell?  That tends to hinge on just how overcrowded the prison is ... somewhere between 1 (just you) and 4 is common.

Best way to keep 24/7 access to a phone and a private room ... don't go to prison!

  3. no they do not have the right to make calls when ever they want

  4. There are only certain times when you can use the telephone

and I think you would be in your cell alone or with one other person.

  5. Absolutely NOT. There are certain days you are allowed to call home. It is a privilege to use the phone. Depends on the the unit your living in also age and gender/ and whether or not you get along with other inmated as well as your behavior. If your bad you get solitary. If your ok you may have another roomie. If your young and underage you can find yourself living with up to 20 people. Again it all depends on the situation and location.

  6. I work in the Idaho system.

In the Meduim and lower they have acess to a phone during any of their dayroom time, about 12 hours a day. They can talk as long as they can pay or there isn't a line for the phone.

Max and solitary units have much more restrictions. usually get the phone only on certain days and then only for and hour.

  7. I am in Ohio, so I can only answer for this state, but there are two men in each cell ( double bunks). The main day area has a bank of 4 telephones but can only be used during an indoor recreation period. Three rec periods are held per week. One in the AM, one in the afternoon and one in the PM. Each inmate is allowed ten minutes on the phone and they are timed.

I hope this helps and you can find it useful

  8. you get one call per day or per week depending on your threat level.  And no cell phones are allowed at all
