of damage on one turn, or does it only protect from one

for example if the opponent deals damage with both a sorcery and a creature of the same color, and you have protection from that color, do you only choose to prevent the damage from one of these sources? or does it completely prevent all damage from that color?

  1. All the CoP enchantments are activated for each source.  So every time a source of damage would deal damage to you, you pay one mana and prevent all damage from that one creature and/or spell.

Team Circles of Protection with Runes of Protection and throw in an Island Sanctuary and an Ivory Mask or two... and you have a real annoying deck.

  2. "COP" states that you have to pay 1 for each source, be it sorcery, creature, enchantment, or whatever.

  3. If you read the card, it tells you to tap a mana to protect you from a source of your choice of the color it is capable of protecting you from.  So a Sorcery and a creature of said color would need 2 mana to protect you from both sources.

  4. also remember, damage, and loss of life are 2 differnt things.

if a source would make you "LOOSE LIFE", a C.O.P.  will not prevent that loss.

  5. it works for all sources. thats why they are banned in all or almost all formats

  6. The cards don't give you protection from a color (only one card does that, and that protection is only temporary), it just gives you the ability to prevent the damage from one source by paying a mana for each. You have to choose one specific card that would deal damage to you and the card will prevent the damage. Ex: If the opponent plays 2 Lava Axes aimed at you and you have a Circle of Protection: Red in play, you have to pay 2 mana to prevent both the damage from both those sources. Plus the only reason they are banned from Standard is because they rotated out.

  7. It only protects from one source at a time.

The way it works is that you pay 1 mana for each source, so you would pay to prevent all damage from the sorcery, then pay again to prevent all damage from the creature.  It doesn't tap, so you can keep using it as long as you can pay the 1 mana.

Card text: 1: The next time a xxxxx source of your choice would deal damage to you this turn, prevent that damage.

  8. You must pay 1 to protect yourself from each new source of damage.

EX: If you are attacked by two red creatures, and you control Circle of Protection: Red, you must pay 2 in order to prevent both creatures. You can pay 1 to prevent one creature, and in this case, the other creature attacks and deals damage as normal.

    Hope that helped.
