  1. The closing agent is the person/company who handles the closing aspects of your loan.  You usually go to that person's/company's office to sign on the dotted line.  It can be an attorney, title company, escrow company, mortgage company, etc.  It can depend on the type of loan (purchase or refinance) and states have their own laws on who can be a closing agent.

Check with your lender about closing agents.  I'm sure the lender can recommend one.  If you have a realtor, he/she can recommend a closing agent as well.

  2. It all depends on the state. Some are attorney states, others arent. I can get you one in Clifton. Contact me at james.oswald@diyownerbuilder.com and I will have one for you by Monday.
