Question:

In relationships - how do you make the distinction between reason and gut feeling? And...?

When do you trust each? I am going to read a book on emotional intelligence. I have read a couple of others recently that stress the importance of relying on feelings/intuition as much as reason. Traditionally, it has been said that women tend to have their intuitive powers more developed. Science has dismissed intuition/feelings for years. However, many contemporary writers tend to disagree, and, as a result, feelings are back.

What experience or thoughts do you have on this? Examples of circumstances on how you use each would be much appreciated.

Not sure if I'm making much sense.

Thanks

  1. Intuition or gut instinct is usually triggered by something.

  2. intuition or gut feelings are nothing but basic instincts that all the  animal family had from  the beginning its a natural thing. all wild animals still have it .Their  brains are not as developed. interestingly the more we learn the more the thought process kicks in the more we lose our basic instincts. a animal usually sneaks out of a situation before something happens. a human thinks it out and says wait a minute. the thought proses is slower. for animals its a survival thing. your pet makes a good boyfriend barometer they just know through instinct You stop a think about how hot he is or his status in society and a mind gets clouded by that instead of your friends spirit and who he really is underneath.    Hope this explains things better.

  3. It depends on how sensitive you are. Everybody is psychic to some degree and everybody is different.

  4. I believe that we have intuition 100%. I have felt things before many times and been right about them, and I don't think I've  ever REALLY felt something and been wrong about it. I felt for six months that I had been cheated on with no signs of it WHATSOEVER until I found out that it had happened. So I truly believe this.

  5. I don't think this can be empirically measured. It is ineffable.

  6. For me, there has to be some logical evidence to back it up.  You may also want to look into intuition.  Many studies on this suggest our brain receives subconscious signals dealing with mannerisms and body language to let us know more about a person.

  7. Men tend to be more right brained then women. You'd think this would make them more intuitive. I think it is a false assumption that thy aren't.

  8. There is no doubt that intuitions have a role to play in our decision making process, but I believe that they are overrated. I'm also not sure about women having their 'gut feelings' more receptive, b/c you see a lot of women in abusive relationships who fall for jerks; if they had strong intuitions, they would be in those circumstances.

To me, reason is always a primary element in decision making. I'm not denying the 'sixth sense' here, but feelings are not always helpful.

    Hope that makes sense.
