  1. rocks can be of mixed minerals or simple minerals. Simple minerals are most of the time crystal formations, a cleavage happens when a plane of the crystal structure is the zone of separation. Cleavages produce most of times a smooth surface and a neat separation.

So, a cleavage is mainly to be found in single mineral rocks.

A fracture is just a standard breakage of a rock, mostly related to pressure or impact, generally it produces a uneven surface and jigsaw borders. It is mainly found in mixed mineral rocks.

  2. cleavage is when the rocks break and the edges are smooth,

fracture is when the rocks break and the edges are all jagged and rough.

[tehe i just learned about that at school xD]

  3. Cleavage deals with the grain of the rock or stone and how it will cleave or break open when pressure is properly applied.

Fracture means it is shattered or forcibly broken.

  4. All minerals have different cleavage at an atomic level. There matrix is set up according to the mineral and its hardness. these bond in such a way that one matrix is bonded to another to form a certain clevage. Quartz has a different "Cleavage " than Topaz.  When a mineral fractures we can see the general "cleavage" of said mineral. Take a quartz rock, break it with a hammer. notice that all the pieces are generaly the same shape. Now take a piece of flint or agate and break it. notice all the pieces are generaly the same shape but different than the quartz pieces... This is an exelent example of atomic minerral structure "Cleavage".

                                                            hope that helped

  5. A GUESS= A CLEAVAGE ON A DIAMOND IS A GOOD BREAK AND A FRACTURE IS DESTRUCTIVE, BUT A DIAMOND CUTTER COULD TELL YOU BETTER. A DIAMOND IS A ROCK

  6. a cleavage furrow is a natural occuring line in which a rock may be easer to chip like fools gold is in blicks and its cleavage is along the blocks a fracture is unnatural and is somewhat unconstant in a type of rock

  7. Cleavage is when it breaks along definite planes, and the surface is smooth.

Fracture is when it basically shatters, and there's no definite plane or smooth surface, take a broken glass for example.
