  1. A test is between 2 countries ie: Australia (Wallabies) Vs New Zealand (All Blacks), where as a match can be between a country and a club side or between 2 club sides.

    there are also unofficial tests between touring sides like the Lions and the Barbarians.  these matches do not affect IRB rankings like a normal test would
