  1. A try in Rugby is so called because the team that scores it tried blood hard to score it!


  2. Actually tri means three, but you get five points for scoring and two more for the conversion.

  3. Mr Sceptic is spot on,in days of old when a player went over the line he was aloud to "TRY" to kick the ball between the sticks to get  2 points.

  4. In the early days of rugby, there were no points for grounding the ball behind the line, but it entitled you to have a "try" at kicking through the posts.

  6. You have to do a spot kick afterwards and if you get that odd shaped ball over the bar, you have converted your try into a goal.

  7. Many Years ago in a school in Rugby a PE teacher was taking a class in football, when a young lad, picked the ball up an ran with it to the goal mouth and proceeded to put the ball on the ground.

    Teacher: "your not supposed to do that"!

    Boy: "Yeah I know, but I tried!"

    Hence the name Rugby

    Hence the word TRY!

    That young lad's name was William Webb Ellis!

    And that my Friend, is when rugby was invented!
