  1. There is a  special thread and then you seal it with a special tube of a glue like substance to keep water from entering through the holes in the fabric made by the needle.  Look it up on:   sewing.about.com/od/beginner1ht...


  2. It means that water can be absorbed into the cotton fibers and relocated to undesirable areas, such as between 2 waterproof layers. Perfect for causing mold.
