In snooker, what happens if the cue ball gets near the jaws of the pocket say and....?

...a coloured ball comes up in front of it so that there is to small a gap for the player to get the cue ball out without hitting the colour ball first. Thus he would foul forever!!??

  1. Yes, a deliberate foul would be necessary. He could touch the coloured ball first, and his opponent would not get points. I don't think his opponent would get a free ball either.

    And by the way, he can't hit the cue ball in a way to 'jump' over the colour, because that would be a foul, and I think his opponent would be awarded the points.


  2. the player would have to play a deliberate foul.it is the only occasion that a player could foul on purpose without a miss being called.

  3. If the referee deems if an "impossible snooker" whereby there is no legal way for you to contact an object ball then your opponent is required to play from where the white ball lands after your shot or... to force you to play for where the white has landed.  Obviously your opponent would receive the penalty points for your foul.
