i.e. the player must hit a red ball, but he/she is snookered with coloured balls surrounding all around the white ball with no gaps to get out through. What will happen in this case?

  1. CaptCanuck has got it right.

Daniel... this is the one case where the referee of a pro tournament would actually apply the miss rule only if the played would have no chance of hitting the red ball if there were no balls in the way (whether off a single cushion or even two). So the ball must be struck in such a way that it could reach the red ball if unimpeded.

  2. he will either concede the frame or foul shot. Thats all he can do.

  3. This was once featured on a snooker programme with John Virgo explaining that the player would have to hot a ball so he only got a minimum foul (4 points), however, there's nothing to stop the opponent having the ball replaced. Could always concede the frame there.

  4. If the player is snookered..lets say for argument sake he's made a red ball but had left himself inside the pack of reds with NO WAY OUT without hitting a red ball..but all his colour options are at the balk end(top) of the table ..he would still need to play the shot, whether he chooses to go off a rail or not, as if he were shooting at his designated coloured ball(whether its the Yellow, Blue, Black...but he must call the ball he's trying to hit!)...the obvious result is that he would hit a red coming out of the pack(resulting in the foul..equal to the value of the ball he calls) and he would give up the cue ball to the other player and the game continues.

Hope that answers your question Thinker!

    Good luck on the tables!

  5. A Loss

  6. The frame would not automatically restart, that would be ridiculous. You just commit the foul and take your penalty.

  7. I would like to see that.. but your SOL if no way out you will foul

  8. The frame is re-started.

Unlike some versions of pool, you have to be able to play a legal shot in snooker.
