This is called incomplete dominance or sometimes, intermediate inheritance.  In the example you've given the parents most likely be pure breeding red crossed with pure breeding white flowered parents.  All the offspring would have one gene for red and one gene for white.  Since both genes are expressed the color of the offspring is pink.  If two pink parents are crossed the expected ratio of offspring is one red to two pink to one white.

    In addition to flower color, tail length in cats, frizzle feathers in birds, and roan color in cattle are all incomplete dominant traits.  People with AB blood have one gene for type A and one gene for type B so it is also incomplete dominance.  Both type A and type B are dominant to type O.
