  1. it probrably refers to the color of the sky or the ocean, somebody must have used it metaphoricly one day and it stuck.

Depends on how it makes people feel, I guess.  Some people refer to it as a blue feeling or depression if you will.  We have many different ways to describe feelings.  Some might never see blue as depressing, others might see it as s**y.  We are all different and as our French friends say, celebrate the differences.  Viva la difference or something like that. LOL
