  1. The handgun must be registered in your name.

  2. South Carolina is not a traditional open carry state. You may not even open carry with a SC permit. However, you may carry a loaded firearm in the glove box or console of your vehicle while traveling and to and from your accomodations

    There you go.**^^**

  3. I like the statement about stopping a cop and asking. If you do not have a permit, I don't think you could carry it in your car, either loaded OR unloaded. I've got an unlimited CCW permit in Indiana, which is reciprocal in most states which issue permits. Indiana issues two types of handgun permits; qualified, which allows the permittee to carry a handgun in a vehicle, UNloaded, and locked in a secure compartment not readily accessible from the passenger compartment, only to and from a place of shooting.  AT NO TIME does this permit allow the permittee to carry the weapon concealed on their person. The other type is UNLIMITED, which basically allows the permittee to carry a gun, loaded or UNloaded, anywhere in the vehicle or on their person. As far as the bullets (billets?) are concerned, if your weapon is a semi-automatic, with a magazine or clip, why chance it? Pop the clip out. The important thing is that, if stopped by a police officer, notify him or her IMMEDIATELY upon their approach to the driver's window, that you have a weapon in the vehicle. DO NOT retreive the weapon until instructed to do so by the officer. They will tell you exactly how to hand the weapon over to them.

  4. SECTION 16-23-20. Unlawful carrying of handgun; exceptions. (9) a person in a vehicle if the handgun is secured in a closed glove compartment, closed console, closed trunk, or in a closed container secured by an integral fastener and transported in the luggage compartment of the vehicle; however, this item is not violated if the glove compartment, console, or trunk is opened in the presence of a law enforcement officer for the sole purpose of retrieving a driver's license, registration, or proof of insurance.

  6. Stop a cop and ask

  7. better check

  8. The correct answer is not "stop a cop and ask" as many of you have been brainwashed to believe.  The correct person to ask would be a competent criminal defense attorney; they should be versed and cognizant of all of the rapidly changing criminal codes.

As for asking a cop, a wise sage once told me, "Getting legal advice from a cop is like getting a drink from an outhouse.  Sure, it's wet... but it's full of something else, too."

Good luck, and avoid the chunky water.
