  1. It varies according to the business, and the part of the country.

Amusement parks - No.  How could people spend a day at Disney World, if they had to go home in the middle of the day for three hours?  We went to one last summer, and it was open just like in the US, about 9:00 AM until about 10:00 PM

Banks close up altogether at about 1:00, and don´t open back up.

Stores often close at 1:00 and then, if the owner feels like it, will reopen at about 5:00.  That CAN be iffy, again, it depends on the region.

I recall going to the Post Office at about 7:00pm, but can´t remember if they closed up for siesta.

Most of the tourist attractions: monuments, museums, etc., stay open all day, but some change their rules, and entrance fees after siesta.

Try searching Patrimonio Nacional.  They run most of the monuments.  I used DK Eyewitness books and searched individual monuments/museums to know what to avoid during the siesta hours.

  2. It really depends on where you live. Amusement parks don´t close. The large supermarkets stay open but some do not. All rural businesses will close. Most close from 2pm until 4pm. If you need to go to a supermarket to shop then go between 2pm & 4pm. The Spanish don´t like shopping then. It will be quiet.

  3. Only close for lunch, during 2:30 p.m. to 17:00, and only for the small shops. The museum or parks open all the day.

And you must undestand that in summer at 15 p.m. are very hot.
