  1. They are talking about indices so one point is one point. FTSE 100 down 25points at the moment at 5454 so was 5479.

With a share it would be a unit of the currency although it is not a point at all rather one pence or one cent (maybe one dollar. Uk shares are quoted in pence (rather than pounds) and US stocks in dollars. But stick to the proper terms and you won't go wrong. Some spread betters say £1 a point so make sure what you are dealing in first! The other expression is basis point which is 1/100 of 1%

To clarify my earlier explanation in spread betting £100 a point is 10000 shares(UK) or 20000 shares (US)

  2. A point is a dollar per share, but it doesn't help much to know that a stock went down a point unless you know the starting price of the stock. A point (dollar) of decline is much more important in a low-priced stock than a high-priced one: a dollar decline in a $5 stock is a 20% hit, but a dollar decline in a $200 stock is only a half-percent hit.

  3. BLABLABLA lost $3 of its shares' cost/worth.

  4. A point is $1.

    GOOG losing 5 points = $5
