  1. There are only heats because the host team is limited by the number of lanes to fit all the swimmers in.  If there were only 6 swimmers then there would only be one heat, but being that there can be 30 kids in an event it takes 5 heats to allow them all a chance to swim.  Scoring happens according to the fastest times no matter which heat you are in so get in there and swim your heart out.

  2. Heats don't count for anything, except maybe pride. If you are in the fastest heat and you win your heat that's a good sign, but no guarentees because someone from another heat could have swam faster than you.

  3. You don't get points for heats because it is all the same event and it goes by time.  Seeded heats are the top 3 fastest heats fastest time last heat middle lane, second fastest entry time second to last heat middle lane and so forth.  This is usually an invitational meet that has heats.  Heat winner ribbons are nice and sometimes when results are posted heat winner is on the results

  4. Heats are the main race. The reason for heats is that there are too many swimmers to compete all at once, so they break the race into multiple parts. It is stilll the best time wins or in some instances, the best times for each heat race again in the final.

Regardless, treat the heat as the real deal.

  5. Just placing in the event counts for points. Winning your heat means nothing unless you swam fast enough to beat people in other heats of your event.
