In the 4 years that I lived in Tenerife I never saw any reference to the second world war or the Spanish Civil War other that the use of the name General Franco for street names etc. I know that General Franco only visited the Canaries once and kept the islands starved of resources, in recent years the Canaries have been trying to distance themselves from Franco to the point of removing Franco's name from buildings and streets I think its a part of their history they would rather forget.
