I understand The Red Shoes (1993) lost $8 million. Has anything since beat that record?

  1. $8 million is a drop in the bucket, and Red Shoes' more recent rip-off Hot Feet lost the same amount in 2006 .

Carrie was notorious, closing after five performances and losing $7 million in 1988, about $12.5 million today. The book Not Since Carrie by Ken Mandelbaum is a bit dated but lists some doozies.

Big lost $10.3 million in 1996 and The Capeman lost $11 million in 1998, but it is one of the best-selling score albums. Taboo lost more than $10 million as well in 2003.

Do a Google search or contact Playbill.com for the biggest loser, but that record is beaten regularly.
