I have a P4 2.4gHz chip, 2gb DDR 133mHz, and a 320gb hard drive

currently, the "custom size" button is checked.

the initial size (MB) = 2046

the maximum size (MB) = 4092

what should i set it to? i want my computer to run as fast as possible. i have to wait like 3 or 4 seconds for Firefox to load!! what can i do to speed things up??

  1. Holy cow 3 or 4 seconds. my goodness that is like 10 minutes a year if you only visit once a day and it could be hours if you enter multiple times daily of just waiting. OMG.

The amount that is set is exactly where it should be. The paging file is twice the amount of ram that is installed. You van change the virtual memory(aka paging file) but it won't speed up that drastic and deplorable wait time. If your puter can handle it and is compatible with it buy ddr2 or 3 ram and that will speed it up slightly. Get a better video card that can read interpret then write it to the screen even quicker. A 512MB with ddr3 memory will speed it up a bit as welll. Pay for faster internet service. More of the page sent quicker so that your computer can display it a bit quicker. Video card and a faster processor will have the highest impact. or lowest if your talking time. Well anyways they will make it quicker faster.
