In the 08 NBA Draft, did some teams BOMB their early pick?

New York definatley did in getting dannilo gallinari out of italy they could have gotten russell westbrook or traded for a higher pick.

yep, im the perfect guy to answer this question because im really into the draft and do research on a lot of these players. im just going to talk about the top 14 picks.

the most obvious one that jumps out is sacramento with thompson. this guy was supposed to be a  low 1st rounder and all of a sudden he shoots up to 12? the kings could have had anthony randolph or marreese speights.

next most obvious one was the bobcats passing on jerryd bayless for a midget. and wasting the #20 pick on alexis ajinca.

joe alexander i have my doubts about. i think he is just a workout wonder. a guy whos athleticism blows everyone away during workouts.

the pacers were stupid for trading bayless for rush. i dont care that they already have tj ford, that guy is so injury prone it wouldnt surprise me if he got hurt again.

the twolves were stupid for trading mayo who will be a superstar for a guy who may be nothing more than average in kevin love.

as for gallinari, i have confidence that he will be better than a lot of the players in this draft. it might take him a little bit to get used to the nba but i think this kid can play.

Minnesota had 2 major needs going into the draft - a PG and a C.  They ended up getting neither for '08.  Minnesota made the right pick IMO......then they traded him away to Memphis for 2 players they don't "need"!

OJ Mayo was the best PG prospect available, and they traded him for Kevin Love, who at PF plays the exact same position as their current best player, Al Jefferson should play (Jefferson plays out of position at C lots of times since they don't have a real C).  That was a bomb of a trade IMO - Love isn't going to get any minutes unless either he or Al Jefferson is playing out of position at C.  And while Mike Miller is a good shooter, they didn't NEED another shooter nearly as much as they needed an NBA PG.  

Did I mention they threw away the 1st pick of Rd2 by drafting a European center who can't play in the USA for 3 years?  Or that they traded away another talented prospect in Lionel Chalmers (who WILL make the Heat's roster IMO) for nothing but a little cash?

Another fine draft for the Wolves....no wonder KG wanted to leave.

Well I think the fact that Brook Lopez went so late is amazing. Many consider Russell Westbrook and bomb but I don't think so, not yet anyway. Galinari is definitely a risk. I think Augustin was a good pick for Charlotte. Sacramento picking Jason Thompson seems like the Spencer Hawes pick and I can't see either doing too much for them. I think Minnesota made a mistake trading away OJ Mayo and I can't see how Eric Gordon is going to help the Clippers. Other than that, it was all pretty reasonable I think.

I dont think Rose will be a bust, because the point guard position is like playing Qb in football you cant come right out and score like 30 points and 15 assists 3 weeks after being with the team, Deron williams in his first summer league didnt have 20 assists in the games. You have to learn the offense, basketball offenses are very complicated and alot of people dont know that, and actually when he played he shot a better percentage the Beasley from the field and everyone jumped on the beasley wagon after his first game but it isnt like he his gonna be the star on his team, he will be the third on his team behind Wade and Marion.
