If so, how? Are they bigger? Better?

  1. The majority of the time officer quarters are much nicer than enlisted quarters. If officers live off base they receive a higher housing allowance so this allows them to obtain better housing. Even when you are deployed officers still have more personal space and better living conditions.

  2. not by much for JOs

    might be better off renting

  3. BOG/BEQ or MFH?

the Qs tend to be no more than 2 man rooms, if that for Officers, while enlisted can have as many as 4 man rooms.

MFH is pretty much the same floor plans, although certain areas or sizes may be set aside for Officers.

  4. It varies from base to base.  Generally however, the officers will have stand alone, single family units instead of the townhomes or joined side-by-side units you see in many places.  Of course, that is not garunteed...at one point on the base we were at the officers housing was brick row houses.  The insides were nice..hardwood floors, fireplaces, but not much larger than enlisted houses of the same size.  Officer housing tends to be all grouped together because of the fraternization policies of the military.  And there are far few officer units on base than enlisted.  Command level often have base housing waiting for them as they often have to live on base, but the waiting list for any other officers can often be longer than the enlisted list.

  5. Depends on rank and base.  At Randolph Capt and Below have the same housing as enlisted folks (which is the same for all enlisted people with families, only one floor plan.)  Maj and above have bigger nicer houses.

At Shaw, enlisted had nicer housing than officer.  Only the top 3 officers had nicer housing than enlisted.  Officer housing were all old duplex's.  We had a newly redone individual house, and we were SrA!

At Robins everyone's housing had recently been redone when hubby was there.  All were nicer, officer housing and chief circle was nicer, but hubby and his daughter were the first to live in his duplex, so very nice.

At Kadena, I don't know what the officers housing was like.  I lived in the dorms back then, it was brand new and very nice.  Enlisted housing was old (WWII) but I've heard that there is newer housing now (I was stationed there about 10 years ago.)
