In the American League Can you pinchhit a pitcher for somebody ?

WHen someone one comes up to bat and they want to pinch hit for someone instead putting in a regular player how about put a pitcher in could you possiblily do that.

you can use a pitcher to pinch hit. i remember there was talk the Indians could use CC Sabathia as a pinch hitter if they felt necessary since he's actually a pretty good hitter.

pitchers can play the field too if you want.
