Were in the bible does it say the women has to take upon the last name of the man she is marrying?

My dad & mom got married yesterday the he said that in bible it said the women takes the men last name but my mother said no it does it just a choose

so if you know where in the bible it says that tell me PLEASE..Thanks alot

  1. Mom's right (as usual). Nowhere does the Bible say that.

    That is a modern tradition in many countries.

    In fact in some countries (Korea for one if memory serves) all a woman does is add Mrs to her name and keeps her own surname.


  2. It does not say that in the Bible, but Jesus said that when a couple is married they become one.  How can they say they are one if they don't have the same name?

    I am not sure, if I would, as a Pastor, officiate at a wedding where I knew they planned to have different last names after the wedding.

  4. Nowhere.  It's an age old tradition thought, to avoid British-sounding last names: David Johnson Wales Hardinger on the Thames Wilson Churchill Dwight.

    Jesus mentions that a man and woman shall leave their respective houses (mom and pop's places) and join as one.  It's easier to think of people as one if they share the same last name, these days.

  5. I don't think it covers that; however, in Ephesians 5:22-24 it says that wives should obey their husbands.
