  1. I cannot refer to the movie since I've seen it in the Italian version and De Niro was speaking there a nice sicilian dialect, but he was dubbed by an Italian native (the actor Ferruccio Amendola)

I've heard him trying to speak Italian in the occasion of his last movie promotion here in Italy and I want say that the few Italian words he was able to pronounce were in a so bad Italian you can nor immagine. So my answer as to the Godfather II is no , he can't speak a good Italian at all and even if he had memorized his part in the movie his Italian must have been surely very accented. I know he had spent at that time 3 weeks in Sicily to learn better the language but I guess this was not enough to grasp the correct accent.

If you can email me an attachment with a part of the movie in the original version I could be more sure about this.

I've tried to source it on line but I didn't succeed in finding.

  2. DE NIRO born in new york

    1/4 italia

    1/4 ireland

    1/4 german

    1/4 holland

    4/4 american

  3. Very much so.  However, he overdoes the accent a bit.
