The trial [Cobell vs. Kempthorne] was brought by Native Americans against the U.S. government ,over a decade ago, because of money not paid to Native Americans by the Government for leasing their lands for oil, agriculture, timber, etc., industries. The plaintiffs and the defendents have agreed on a payout of $58 billion to approx. 500,000 Natives.

Although the case isn't officially over, the judge expects to conclude the trial either this week or next week. And I'm wondering: how long will it take to distribute the money to the Indians after the trial is over?

  1. Let's see ... $58 Billion to 500,000 individuals would translate to about 116,000 each.  Now figure the appeals processes and the fact that the Government will try to mitigate the amount with the amount of Public assistance or federal funds expended on those same 500,000 Indians, then subtract the taxes from the balance and they shouldn't owe the government much at all ...

  2. I can't wait. I was born in America, that makes me a native American as well.

    Native means "born in".

    6. born in a particular place or country: a native New Yorker.

  3. the 10th of never.

  4. 200 years give or take a few.

  5. I'm gonna make an assumption that it will probably take quite some time, being that nothing comes fast from our government. My advice would be to sit tight and wait a few months, maybe even a year. Hate to think it would take that long, but I'm trying to be realistic with ya.
