In the Olympics, why don't I see any other written language?

I've been watching the Olympics, and I was just wondering why I haven't seen any other language besides English on sweats and stuff. Like China's sweats just say 'China', don't countries have a different name for their country in their language? Why isn't it in Chinese characters? I guess they try to limit the amount of writing because of all of the different countries participating, but I still want to see some foreign language. What's the deal?

(i know that i am being very ignorant, but it's not my fault they don't teach us about the rest of the world until we're juniors in high school)

  1. english has sort of become the unofficial universal language. a lot of countries have english as second language and their citizens can use it fluently

  2. The official languages of the Olympics are French, English and the Host country. If you look at the Gymnasts suits they have Chinese characters if you want to see some. Otherwise you could always just look up Chinese characters online
