Question:

In the Philippines, why does it seem that there is a lack of business investors in Tagaytay?

I was just wondering, since Tagaytay is very popular with the local tourists, why is it not attracting business investments? I would have wanted to stay there for a weekend in a nice hotel but I find the lack of things to do/go to in Tagaytay a disincentive to go there. Don't say I can go to Tagaytay Highlands. That's for members only and I'm not one of them.

  1. good question.  that's exactly how i feel everytime i visit the place but i will be contented to stroll around and enjoy the cool weather and scenery.  if you play golf that's the place to go but as you said you have to be a member.  ask a friend who have a membership and he can bring you with him.  i don't really know the answer.

  2. Tagaytay is yes a tourist destination, however it is not that huge of a market comparing other tourist destinations in the country for investors to be interested in.  The real estate is also expensive and that the main focus of the area is only the view of Taal Volcano and nothing more.  As it is, there is Days Inn, Tagaytay Picnic Groove and retreat houses, and there are hotels getting built there as of now.

The closes alternative is Batangas, that is where the focus of development.  Condo with beach front and hotels are being develop and there will be ferries that will transport people to and from SM MOA.

  3. As I know, SM Tagaytay was put into shelf because of high tax and other sorts of fees being imposed by the Municipality of Tagaytay. Now you know why no huge businesses or infras are sprouting in the area.

  4. The zonal value of Tagaytay is very high and investing your money there will be immaterial.  Only the rich people can afford to go there.  Investors, of course, select a very lucrative place to sell their products or ideas.

  5. Well, as a resident of Tagaytay, I feel that I should defend it.☺

    First the businesses:

There's Olivares plaza (where all the buses and jeepneys stop) - about half of it seems to be owned by Koreans. It also appears to have cornered the ukay-ukay market of which there are 8. There's also the downtown area with lots of stores.

Most of the businesses are in Tageytay to cater to the tourist and convention market.

    Then the tourist attractions:

From East to West, there are...

People's Park in the Sky on top of Mt. Sungay (on clear day you can see Manila).

Tagaytay Highlands (Fancy place w/ golf course where they won't let even ME in).

Road to Talisay and tours of either the Taal volcano (3 craters) or a 3 hour boat ride around the island.

Then on left side is Picnic Grove park, and Japanese Peace Garden right after.

Palenke off Sta. Rosa road, then seems like hundreds of flower stalls before and after the rotonda.

Next at Amadeo crossing you can take a detour to Amadeo, the capital of Cavite coffees.

Next down the road is a casino Filipino, another palenke.. and the downtown area.

Back out of town you get to see huge radio antennas on left, and a radar which has been broken since 2007 (my company was supposed to plan replacement of that, but you know how Philippine contracts go).

Finally, right at the city exit gate is a Residence Inn. in the hotel is a full size zoo worth going to.

    Facilities:

There are literally dozens of hotels and appartels from very expensive to cheap. If you are looking for cheap, I would suggest the Sunflower Hostel just North of the city hall. Many people come for a weekend to go to one of dozens of churches and monasteries.

Most of the not-so-poor people own a house in Tagaytay and come over for the weekend ~ that's why the traffic is a disaster on Saturday and Sunday.

Want more? I can't think of anything else.

  6. Try Residence inn ... they have rooms for you to stay and they have a mini zoo there. Pagcor's casino there is nice. You can try horseback riding at taal vista hotel.

  7. There's nothing to do in Tagaytay. It's just the nice weather and golf. Kind of like a retirement community.
