In the Philippines...is it ok for a 20 year old female to have a 14 year old as a boyfriend? I know the law is different there than in the US. I think the age of consent there is only 12- am I right?

With the guy being a minor at age 14, morally it may not be a good picture to the boy's parents. But after 10 years when he's 24 and you're 30, your ages are not questionable to the society anymore.

There is nothing wrong about older women choosing younger guys except that it is a vestige of cultural biases. Society is long accustomed with the conservative and traditional view that guys should be older (even taller  (O_O)!) or same age as their mate in a relationship hence some people may not be in favour of your relationship.

Bottom line is if your prerogative makes you happy, none of our opinions would matter.

In the Philippines there is no age consent for having a boyfriend and girlfriend relationships, depending on various cultural dictates (remember Philippines is culturally diverse) Female older than the male, you will be dealing with societal cultures and family values.  The age does not generally rules the limits of these relationships, this is depending on their innate culture.  The government does not dictate what culture allows, there is no age consent, its all up to  how it is accepted in the family and in societal culture.

"the age of sexual consent in the Philippines is 12 for all, but contacts with minors (under 18) are an offence if the minor consents to the act for money, gain or any other remuneration or as the result of an influence of any adult person"

I don't understand why a 14 year old girl would want to be with a 14 year old guy.  Mentally still an infant, physically not able to handle anything .......

Basically if you are an adult, stay away from kids.  There are also laws in the US and other countries which impose the laws of the US (or the respective country) on their citzens abroad.

14 year old boys in the Philippines date 14-year old girls, or girls one year older or younger. These are NOT serious relationships, more like play.

But a 20 year old female should not be playing with a 14 year old boy! No matter what the law says, it just looks weird.

I'm not particularly interested in kids myself but those age limits are all socially imposed by the prudish and jealous.  The natural age of consent is post-puberty and that was made by God Himself.  Forget what everybody else thinks and use your own good judgment.  There was a time when age was not such a big deal. Some people try to apply the rules of pedophilia to this kind of case and its totally different.  People can think EEEWWWW all they want to.  I say that too.....at balut.  I don't see anybody trying to outlaw that c**p.

For me, it's okay as long as you don't engage in s*x.  Go malling, watch movies, shopping etc., enjoy each other's company.  But you will need more patience and tolerance with him not only because he's younger than you are but also less matured.  I envy you, girl! lol

Philippine law sets the age of consent to 12 and over. There are some sentorial efforts to raise this age to 16.
