  1. Honestly, there isn't any one homeschooling choice for president.  Between McCain and the democratic choices, I think McCain would be the friendlier choice if homeschooling was the only main issue (Hillary and Obama are both known to cater to the NEA), but it's not.

With something as large as a presidential choice, I believe that we need to move beyond one set issue and consider the whole package.  First, what are your values?  What traits and values do you think are important in our president?  Will they be a strong leader, or will they bow to whichever special interest group gives them the most money?

Then, consider a candidate as a whole package.  Do they support the things you think are most important?  Will they be a strong leader, or simply a figurehead?  Will they keep their promises, or are they just looking to collect votes?  Will they work well with Congress, or are they just looking to promote their own agenda?

Because homeschooling is such a diverse field, it's really impossible to have a homeschool "choice" candidate.  Just on this board, there are homeschoolers who are conservative Republicans and who are liberal anarchists.  There are fundamental Christians, atheists, pagans, Jews, Muslims, and everything else out there.

I think you asked a good question; this election is a good time to learn about how our government is *supposed* to work and what you can do, as you get older, to uphold that.  Closely scrutinize the candidates and see who they really are and what they stand for - and then support the one you think would do the best job.

That's what it's all about!  Hope that helps :)

  2. Just because people homeschool, that does not define their voting practices.  In my case NO is the answer.  I still haven't decided who I'm voting for, but it is NOT McCain.

IMO voting is picking the lesser of the evils.  The candidates are usually all liars, cheats, or whatever - but you have to pick someone - especially if you want to be able to justly complain about the government, and the job they're doing (or not doing in some cases).  If you don't vote, you have no right to complain (this applies to those of voting age) since you couldn't be bothered to pick who you wanted to win (even if they didn't).

I can say at the current moment that I hope to see the old mold broken, and will help the process by casting my vote for either the first black man or first woman to be elected president.

  3. He'll do ;-)  But Mike Huckabee was the "homeschooler's friend" while he was in the race.

Typically Republicans are better about the freedoms for HS'ers than Democrats are.

  4. Huckabee was the fist choice. McCain is pro-war, and has tried to change the republican pro-life stance, so he is not the first choice of some homeschoolers.

I don't think we really have a good choice this fall. The only "good" thing about any candidate is that Hilary did defend homeschoolers in court as an attorney in her early days.  But she has many policies that most homeschoolers disagree with in regards to abortion.

  5. Not all homeschoolers are conservatives or Christian.

I'm voting Obama, but only because Edwards and Kucinich are no longer in the running.

  6. Did you mean "Is McCain the homeschooling choice?"

Meaning are homeschool families likely to vote for McCain?

Well, I'm as FAR LEFT and Democrat as you can get. And I also can't vote, lol.

But I like McCain, and think he's a wonderful man, and would make a good President, but wouldn't vote for him though.

    Obama is my person.

    =)
