I got this answer from a SMeyer Q&A Interview. so it is true : ) Jane and Alec were turned when they were 13 years old. That's why they're about 5" feet high, slightly taller than Alice, and still appear child-like : ) Hope that helps!

i can't remember the books telling you that, but i get the impression that she looks about 10 or 11, maybe even younger.
