In the Twilight series...Mistake in Midnight Sun?

Edward and the other vampires do not need to breathe as it says that it is merely a habit that is rather enjoyable but in Midnight Sun (I think, although it might be in one of the other books) Edward says that he was running out of breath to be able to talk. Surely if he didn't need to breath, why would he run out of breath to talk?

no to talk you have to have air to go past ur voicebox so that he needed to have air in his lungs to talk but not to live. if vampires didnt talk then they could live without breathing

it was probably when edward smelt bellas scent, i found it hard to breathe because of her scent it made him wanna kill her as he states a lot so he was most probably unable to speak because of it

That was probably in a section where Bella was present, he didn't want to smell her. He needs to take in air to be able to speak, but doesn't need the air to live. Just like in Breaking Dawn when Bella was in the living room waiting for Charlie, she yelled 'Hey Dad'..and said she was almost out of air, because she didn't want to smell him.

yeah i seen that too but to talk air has to be blown through your vocal box.. they just dont need air to live.
