  1. I do not live in the UK but do read the World Coin News and it is with the help of people there that do use metal detectors that a lot of old English and Celtic coins have been found, A few have been very rare with only one example known. This helps the rest of us numismatists out with more information added for research. It also shows the British treasure trove laws work. So I don't think people look down upon the metal detectorist as long as the rules are followed and permission is asked. Good luck

  2. Probably regarded as Anoraks, but so what? Do your own thing. I ride a unicycle and enjoy it.

  3. not on the beach and i wouldnt think you were strange if you had one in your garden either but i dunno , some might!  who cares you might find some buried treasure lol

  4. In the UK, any hobby or interest that doesn't involve 22 men kicking a bag of wind aboutis considered strange. Trainspotting, birdwatching, making model aeroplanes and astronomy are all hobbies that the football mafia laugh at, so go on, get your metal detector and do what YOU wnt to do and enjoy doing it.

  5. Well, I live by fields and lost my necklace over there (silly me) so I walked for ages over there with a metal detector and nobody gave me any funny looks.

  6. In the street, possibly.

But for your garden? Most likely not.

You could always give the excuse that you lost your keys :)

  7. No, you see so many of them on the beaches that I don't think anyone bats an eyelid!

  8. About 10 or 15 years ago lots of people used metal detectors at the beech. Don't see as many now though.

I don't think these people are odd, though may do if they were walking along the high street.

  9. yeppppppppp. unless they r the cops or detectives

  10. Your neighbours already think you're strange.

  11. Buying one for the garden?

Its unlikely youll find anything useful so it would just be a waste of money

And yes it would be strange but you shouldnt care about what neighbours think (especially nosey ones!)

  12. NO

  13. Yes when they try it in an escalator!!.
