I am filling out applications for a graduate program in the UK, but am confused by some of the terms. One of the fields asks for a Degree title- I know that is where I put in, BS. The next field asks for "Degree Grade or Class of degree (obtained or expected)"- I have no idea what this means. Thanks in advance for any help!

  1. I had to do this when I applied for my Masters in the UK. Just enter your GPA. The degree grade is like (but not the same as) the A/B/C system in the states. A first class degree (1) is like an A, a higher second (2:1) is like a B, a second (2:2) is like a C, with a third class degree (3) like a D.

When you write in your application, use the GPA system as the course you're applying to will better be able to decide where your exact GPA will fit into their course as a 3.5 GPA may be a first class degree for some and a higher second for others.

  2. Will there be any sort of level associated with your degree to say how well you passed? Perhaps a GPA, or a percentage mark? Or a rank within your class?

In the UK this is where you would put First, 2:1 and so on. If you don't have that, just try to give them a guide as to whereabouts you fall, results-wise.

And if it's an honours degree make sure you put that in there somewhere as well, because the class would specify that for a UK student.
