Are you allowed so many penalty points as in the UK before you have a ban from driving?

  1. Depends on the state you live in. Some states have them and depending on the offense, depends on the amount of points that are taken.


  2. They do in my state.  If you get too many points your license is suspended.

  3. Yes but it is a State situation. The feds do not issue points the States do. Some States are more tolerant than others.

  4. Here is an example but it differs from state to state.

    TRAFFIC VIOLATION POINTS

    Speeding (MPH over posted limit)

    1 to 10             3 points

    11 to 20   4 points

    21 to 30            6 points

    31 to 40               8 points

    More than 40       11 points

    Reckless driving          5 points

    Failing to stop for school bus                5 points

    Following too closely (tailgating)             4 points

    Inadequate brakes                      4 points

    (while driving employer's vehicle)                 2 points

    Failing to yield right-of-way                          3 points

    Violation involving a traffic signal, stop sign or yield sign     3 points

    Railroad crossing violation                     3 points

    Improper passing, unsafe lane change, drove left of center, or drove wrong direction                      3 points

    Leaving scene of incident involving property damage or injury to domestic animal                               3 points

    Safety restraint violation involving person under 16            3 points

    Any other moving violation                    2 points
